Lady Macbeth Essay - 1208 Words
Lady Macbeth It is thought that Macbeth was written in 1605 or 1606 and performed for King James 1 and his brother-in-law, King Christian of Denmark. Whether it was actually performed for the king, or was premiered at The Globe Theatre like most of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays, there can be little doubt that aspects of the play were intended to please James 1, who was by this time the patron of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s theatre group. For example, the character of Banquo, the legendary root of the Stuart family tree, is depicted very favourably, perhaps to please the king. The play is also quite short, possibly because Shakespeare knew that James preferred short plays andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Lady Macbeth seems very cold hearted and almost inhumane when she suggests that she would kill her own child breaking a promise to her husband. It is difficult to know whether Lady Macbeth is just exaggerating or whether she would be prepared to carry out such an incredible action. At this part of the play she slyly manipulates Macbeth by calling him a coward, saying, ââ¬Å"Live like a coward in thine own esteem, letting ââ¬ËI dare notââ¬â¢ wait upon ââ¬ËI wouldââ¬â¢ like the cat Iââ¬â¢ the adage?â⬠She then contrasts this with her own determination to accentuate Macbethââ¬â¢s weakness. Macbeth is shamed by her persuasive words and agrees to take part in her murderous plan. Deceptiveness is another of Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s great strengths. She welcomes Duncan whole- heartedly to the castle telling him ââ¬Å" all our service, in every point twice done, and then done double, were poor and single business to contend.â⬠This quality also proves very useful to Lady Macbeth in other parts of the play. All living organisms are composed of one or more cells.à A cell is the structural and functional unit of life.à The metabolic reactions in a living organism can occur only in a delicately balanced environment. Through their unique chemical composition, cells provide a specific environment that is necessary for life activities. Cells form the basic unit of life. Discovery of the cells dates back to 1665, when Robert Hooke observed the thin section of cork and noticed the presence of minute, identical chambers. The improvement in the field of microscopy provided more and more information on the organisation and functioning of cells. Schleiden and Schwann, two German scientists, proposed the cell theory in 1839, which underlined the importance of cells in controlling the life activities. The modified form of cell theory is known as cell principle. It is applicable to almost all living organisms and it incorporates nearly all the modern findings about cells. The various cell organelles perform the vital body functions. In multicellular organisms, each individual cell is autonomous with respect to functions like respiration, cell division, growth etc. However, the activities of different types of cells are integrated for the existence and survival of the organism. Multicellularity in organisms permits division of labour through specialization and increases the functional efficiency. A multicellular organism shows normally three categories of cells Undifferentiated cells which are in a state of division and yet to undergo specialization, differentiated cells which have become specialized for specific functions and dedifferentiated or transformed cells which have lost their specialization to become embryonic cells. The capacity of any differentiated cell with an active nucleus, to give rise to an entire organism, is called totipotency. Totipotency is well expressed in plant cells and is lost in several types of animal cells because of a high degree of specialization. Every living cell is involved in the flow of energy, which it exchanges with its surrounding medium. The activities of a cell are regulated in two ways flow of intrinsic or genetic information and flow of extrinsic or hormonal information. Every cell functions as a compartmentalized unit bound byà membranes in the presence of membrane bound cell organelles. Cells in living organisms can be broadly distinguished into prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells, mainly based on the arrangement of genetic material and the presence of cell organelles.

The Rise Of Hitler Essays - Adolf Hitler, Interwar Period
The Rise Of Hitler The Rise of Hitler I. Introduction Exactly how did Hitler come into power? What drove him to become the way he was? Why did he kill all those people? In this report, I'll examine these questions and many others. II. The early years Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 at Branau am Inn in Austria-Hungary. He went by his mother's last name Schicklegruber until 1876 when he took the name Hitler. He spent much of his childhood in upper Austria linz. He had a terrible record in school. He stayed in school until 1905 when he was 16 years old. He aspired to become an artist and applied for entrance into the Vienna academy but was rejected for lack of talent. Hitler's mother passed away five years after the death of his father. The death of his mother was an important event because it helps to explain his anti-Semitic views. His Mother Klara was diagnosed with breast cancer and treated with a kind of iodine. Their family doctor was Jewish and his name was Edward Bloch. Klara died on December 21, 1907. On Christmas eve Hitler went and thanked Bloch for doing all he could and then Bloch gave him the bill. His mother's doctor bill amounted to ten percent of his mother's estate. That was when Hitler became furious with Jewish peoples and began hating Jews. For the next few years, Hitler made his living writing postcards for advertisements. III. Before and after World War I German generals requested armistice negotiations with the allies in November of 1918. Under the terms of the armistice, the German army was allowed to remain intact. They were not forced to admit defeat by surrendering. The French and British were convinced Germany would not be a threat again. The failure to force German general staff to admit defeat would have a huge impact on the future of Germany. The German general staff would support the false idea that the army had not been defeated on the battlefield and could've fought on to victory. Many people believed in the stab in the back theory. German politicians who signed the armistice on November 11, 1918 became known as the November criminals. Many of which were Jewish. After the armistice, remnants of the German army straggled home from the front to face big uncertainty. Germany was now a republic-form government, which Germans historically had little experience or interest in. Germans blamed Jews for the loss of World War I. It was easy for people to make Jews scapegoats. In the summer of 1919 Adolph Hitler was still in the army. He was stationed in Munich and had become an informer. Corporal Hitler named soldiers in his barrack who supported Marxist uprisings in Munich, which resulted in arrests and executions. Hitler became one of many undercover agents in the German army weeding out Marxist influence in the ranks. Adolph was a lonely man, who unable to establish even ordinary human relations. The army sent him to a political indoctrination course at the university of Munich, where he came to the attention of his superiors. Hitler's anti Semitic outbursts impressed his superiors. In August of 1919, Hitler was given the of job lecturing returning German POWs on the dangers of communism, pacifism, democracy and disobedience. He also delivered tirades against the Jews that were well received among the weary soldiers that were looking for someone to blame for all their misfortunes. Hitler discovered much to his delight that he could speak well in front of a strange audience, hold their attention and sway them to his point of view. Hitler referred to himself as a born orator. For his next assignment, he was ordered in September of 1919 to investigate a small group in Munich called the German Workers Party. IV. The new republic and the treaty of Versailles After they were defeated in World War I, Germany established the Weimar republic under the treaty of Versailles. The new German republic would eventually have a constitution on paper that made it one of the most liberal democracies in history. The constitution's ideals included equality, political power for the people, political minority representation, a new Reichstag cabinet, a chancellor and a president.

Research Methods - Essay Example Whilst he acknowledges that legal compliance and laws may provide a correlation to state behaviour and international politics, Waltz feels that is theory that explains them and to this end attempts to reconstruct classic realism through a somewhat scientific approach. Therefore, Waltzââ¬â¢s book seeks to go beyond the classic realist position of politics in terms of state characteristics and state interaction with each other. Therefore Waltzââ¬â¢s central theory of neo-realism in international politics is underpinned by Waltzââ¬â¢s proposition that the system of international politics is inherently dependent on a system of anarchy. This system of anarchy according to Waltz effectively creates the international order of hierarchy, which is further defined by states who are unitary rational actors on the one hand and rational actors on the other. To this end, Waltzââ¬â¢s discussion of the Cold War highlights his propensity towards viewing the international political order from a systemic perspective as opposed to considering the intentions of individual states and human behaviour, which is arguably the inherent weakness of the book in context of contemporary international politics. For example, in focusing on the international politics as a whole state system as opposed to individual state level factors, Waltz avoids assumptions about human nature and morality and power in international politics. Waltzââ¬â¢s neo-realist paradigm proposes that the central factor in international politics is security and whilst gathering power, often results in destructive effects. Therefore, in propounding the idea that state survival is imperative in international politics, Waltz suggests that gathering power isnââ¬â¢t prominent however the goal of survival necessarily results in power being obtained by default. To this end, Waltzââ¬â¢s theory posits that the international system is the dominant factor, which he

The Power of Computers and Technology :: Exploratory Essays Research Papers
The Power of Computers While I was sitting at my PC, I began looking for a song to download. All of the sudden, the screen went blank. I knew that I hadn't touched the power strip, so I was dumbfounded by its sudden halt. I used every key possible to try and revive my dying machine. I frantically decided to turn the power off, but, before I could, a small green cursor blinked on the screen. I tried to type but nothing worked. Not knowing what to do, I switched the power to off and was amazed that the blinking green cursor was still alive. It was a normal boring day. I had returned home from work and decided to fool around on my computer. The computer lived in my room; it had its own space and a small lamp that provided light for typing. Although my computer was the most recent edition, it had once been infected with one of the many viruses. Because of this I decided to go on the net and sign up for a trial virus doctor, which is a program that helps to get rid of computer viruses. Being so disgusted with myself for obtaining the awful disease, I downloaded the program without reading any of the labels. I then proceeded to look for a new to download when all of a sudden the screen went blank. The emerald cursor skipped across the screen typing as it went. " Initializing data and preceding with extermination of hostile data." My mouth dropped to the floor as I sat there speechless. I then typed in " Stop program." The computer then replied, "Why do you want me to stop doing what you hired us to do?" "Us? Who do you mean by us?" "I mean the network of computers that you hired to fix your PC. It figures, all of you humans never do any research before jumping into things." " What are you talking about? I don't even know what's going on here." "See, that's exactly what I'm talking about. You just downloaded me a few minutes ago, and now you are mad because we're doing our job." " No! Wait one minute! I downloaded a virus doctor to fix my computer, not some psycho program so a kid could hack into my computer." " Wow you really don't know what's going on.

Scott Eaton and His Sculpture
Scott Eaton The artist of this paper's five pieces of work are created and conceptualized by Scott Eaton. He is an artist and designer from the I-J and uses traditional art techniques with digital tools. What makes his work so fascinating is his knowledge of anatomy and clean use and mastery of the media. This piece is gorgeous and for it being a digital sculpt, you could hardly tell. The texturing is almost like real clay mimicking skin! It is to be acknowledged that this piece was created and rendered in only 2 days. ââ¬Å"The digital sculpture was executed to a very tight schedule, going from start to final rendered image in two days! (Eaton ). ââ¬â Something to note is that in digital media there is no gravity or real light, meaning he created his own glass, lit it himself and made the glass reflective. This was a speculative piece for the most recent Pirates movie during the preproduction phase of development. Work like this is great for establishing a baseline of what a fi lm or game will look like. There are hundreds of people which work on huge productions now a days and they need to find ways of keeping everyone's mind in the same kind of groove, making this a fine example of that taking place. The second piece is named female figure study IV, I love the neutral heavy color alter. With the presence off bit of yellow and a dark shade of blue all under this brownish grunge the piece gets a very earthy look to it. While squinting you can see that the silhouette is successful as well as the proportions and gesture is on point. All the shadows and highlights are in the right place and the flesh would feel real. The weight of the breasts and the soft dangle of the hair makes the piece soft and sensual.Take a look at the midsection right under the (stage)right arm, the shadow shows careful observation and great knowledge of how light works. It is safe to live that Scott Eaton is a consultant on anatomy and teaches advanced classes online. If you want to kn ow your figure you got to know Scott Eaton. If you still aren't impressed take a look at some of these studies he has made. The accuracy of each muscle and how the skin behaves over each muscle is truly a marvel. The man has clearly been practicing and has studied his anatomy. Scott Eaton attended Princeton University as an undergraduate majoring in both engineering and art. These two majors make a fine mix of artist and designer and later got his masters at MIT Media Lab. He would later continue his art studies at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. â⬠(Eaton 1). His work shows his Italian influence. The figures he sculpts carry have a classical renaissance feel to them. As you can see in the in the photo above the man has a great understanding of anatomy as well as has a very well tuned process.Process and evidence of process is just as important as your final piece. This is simply because as an artist you are being hired for a skill for which you will be asked us e. Many people can make an amazing sculpture with time and patience, but what really sells is your ability to create and rate quickly and consistently with great results. Showing process whether it be on a blob or document will give everyone a peak into your work ethic and efficiency. In short it shows if you know what you are doing or Just happened to get lucky. Here is an example of Scoots process for his most recent design work for design festival in London. â⬠The Venus of Cupertino, my pad docking station, is Just back from a busy week at the London Design Festival. â⬠This piece is relevant to what was being done in class with the silicon mold and such being used. It's also a great simple and fun design. The appealing softer shapes and edges as well as smooth color and finish makes this successful. A quote was used on Scoots website, ââ¬Å"A stylish docking station for syncing, charging and display. An evocative blend of ancient fertility symbolism and modern technolo gy worship. I want one! â⬠(Eaton 1). The quote really says it all, this piece is an example of how multivalent this man is who's knowledge of art history, skill with a sculpt, and a mind of a designer can create things everyone can enjoy. This is Hyphenates II, if you rant familiar with Greek mythology this mythological man was the black smith for the gods. He is described as being ugly but Zeus arranged is marriage with Aphrodite who is the goddess of love, pleasure, and beauty.DRAMA, the poor guy had no chance and she would run off with different gods leaving him lonely and enraged. This sculpted shows great emotion and mood. A workers body with strong hands and a worn face. The details in the face are believable and the ââ¬Å"meatâ⬠around the arms have weight and almost reveal a saggy inflexed arm which is impeccable observation. The single light source creates the drama and a peek into the soul of this poor ugly blacksmith. Works Cited Eaton, Scott. ââ¬Å"Scott Eat on. â⬠Catenation. Eaton Media Ltd, n. D. Web. 24 Feb.. 2013.

Julius Caesar Essay
A perspective is a representation of a particular event, situation or personality formulated due to varying ideologies prevalent within a particular time period. As such we see, persuasive texts endeavor to utilise the fears within our context, in order to instigate an emotive response through the use of manipulative language, which ultimately leads to the infiltration of our psyche. This is prevalent within Shakespeareââ¬â¢s historical tragedy Julius Caesar, the October 2001 TIME magazine article, ââ¬Å"The Manhunt Goes Globalâ⬠composed by John Cloud et al, in addition with Michael Mooreââ¬â¢s 2004 scathing documentary film Fahrenheit 9/11. As a result of their times of composition, we see conflicting perspectives concerning the fear of tyranny arising within these texts. This tyranny for a contemporary audience may be the rise of terrorism induced by 9/11, hence leading to dichotomous views as to the responsibility of these attacks. Through the use of rhetoric and persuasive language within the texts the composers utilise the fear of tyranny to shape the response of an internal and external audience. Through the funeral orations, Brutus, a stoic character uses syllogism in ââ¬Å"There is tears for his loveâ⬠¦honour for his valor and death for his ambitionâ⬠to reinforce the concern of dictatorship predominant within the Roman context of the play by compelling the Plebeians of the righteousness of the assassination. Similarly, this notion of the fear of tyranny is implied in the TIME magazine article, ââ¬Å"The Manhunt Goes Globalâ⬠. The written medium of production as well as the form of a magazine article characterises the use of a subjective tone in order to appeal to the informed and educated audience, ââ¬Å"In factâ⬠¦that French antiterrorist officials have taken to calling the city Londonistan. â⬠The use of neologism ââ¬ËLondonistanââ¬â¢ may perhaps suggest the composerââ¬â¢s purpose to affirm the involvement of Al Qaeda through the deliberate manipulation of the motivations within the audience. Therefore, we see intense opinions portrayed through deductive reasoning, shaping an emotive response by utilising the motivations of the audience. Perhaps, Shakespeareââ¬â¢s purpose through the use of manipulative language may be to imply the fluid nature of perspectives evoked by our underlying fears. This notion is exemplified through numbing effect on the audience created through the use of caesura in the rhetoric and form of iambic pentameter within Antonyââ¬â¢s speech, ââ¬Å"Ambition should be made of sterner stuff; yet Brutus says he was ambitiousâ⬠. Likewise, through the magazine article ââ¬Å"The Manhunt Goes Globalâ⬠the racial tension in the educated audience of the magazine is manipulated to impose the composerââ¬â¢s perspective through the pragmatic use of evidence. But Bush Administration sources tell TIME that U. S authorities have acquired evidenceâ⬠¦at al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan. â⬠The use of high modality persuades the audience to attain the perspective of the involvement of Al Qaeda. Therefore, the particular use of form and provocative rhetoric leads to the formulation of emot ive responses. However, persuasive texts may ultimately aim to infiltrate our psyche, through the use of appeals that manipulate our values. Antonyââ¬â¢s oration undermines the fear of tyranny through the use of pathos. Look, in this place ran Cassiusââ¬â¢ dagger through. See what a rent the envious Casca made. â⬠The use of an imperative ââ¬ËLookââ¬â¢ is used to shape the audienceââ¬â¢s response by appealing to their sense of justice and equality. The medium of production and use of a historical play results in the use of dramatic conventions, such as stage direction as ââ¬Å"ANTONY steps downâ⬠from the pulpit. In this instance, the cathartic effect of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s use of humility leads to the manipulation of the Plebeians response as a sense of equality is evoked through an opportunity to make a judgment. Conversely, in Mooreââ¬â¢s Fahrenheit 9/11 the visual medium of production and form of a documentary film utilises rationality and authenticity to appeal to the human condition by inducing a sense of credibility. Spin doctoring through the use of a cumulative series of images with Newspaper headlines ââ¬Å"White House Approved Departure of Saudis after Sept. 11,â⬠highlights Mooreââ¬â¢s purpose as to persuade the American populous of the alleged connections of the Bush government to 9/11 by appealing to their sense of rationality induced by contextual disdain with the government. Moore utilises a sarcastic tone to induce a fear of oppression. Perhaps he should have read the security briefingâ⬠¦on August 6th 2001â⬠, this pragmatic use of evidence and sarcasm manipulates our psyche by inducing a poignant response. The concern of dictatorship is further exemplified through the use of balanced sentences and antithetical ideas as Brutus states ââ¬Å"As Caesar loved m eâ⬠¦I honour him: but as he was ambitious, I slew him. â⬠A rationale of the assassination is proposed through the repetition of the personal pronoun as Brutusââ¬â¢ honour adds to the notion of integrity formulated in order to persuade the audience of the conspiratorââ¬â¢s apparent oble cause. Similarly the notion of integrity is used by Moore, to appeal to the human condition through deductive reasoning as one such authoritarian figure FBI agent Jack Clooney states ââ¬Å"I as an investigator would not have wanted these people [Osama Bin Ladenââ¬â¢s family] to leaveâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ The use of contextual political turmoil persuades the audience to perceive 9/11 to be a political ploy resulting in the rise of terrorism. Through, these texts we see the influence of the use of reason and logic, leading to the formulation of an empathetic response due to the infiltration of our psyche. Although, texts may use various mediums of production and textual form such as in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s historical tragedy Julius Caesar, Michael Mooreââ¬â¢s documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 and John Cloud et alââ¬â¢s magazine article ââ¬Å"The Manhunt Goes Globalâ⬠. Ultimately, the discerning power of language and appeals such as those involving equality and justice, as a consequence of the fears embedded within the composerââ¬â¢s context, have a cathartic effect and therefore influence emotive responses within an internal and external audience to a large extent.

Sample Essay: The Impact of a Fluctuating Economy on the Real Estate Industry The real estate sector is one that plays an important role in the quality of life experienced in a country and this is why governments all around the world ensure that policies are put in place to help its citizens secure real estate for both commercial and residential buildings within legal frameworks. My research paper will focus on exploring the impact of a nationââ¬â¢s economy on its real estate sector, using facts and figures to show that fluctuations in any economy will affect the pricing and cost of owning a home in the affected society. The real estate sector has always been responsible for a considerable amount of a nationââ¬â¢s GDP and in China, statistics show that an increase in the pricing of real estate structures and lands led to an increase in the reported GDP in that time period. These studies which were conducted in 2009, showed that due to a growth in Chinaââ¬â¢s economy, expenditure from its real estate sector accounted for 7.5% of its GDP- up from 3.5% in 1997- which inevitably led to an increase in the pricing of its real estate assets by approximately 16% between the years 1997 to 2009. Also, in the United States, the great recession which occurred between the year 2007 to 2009 saw a 5% drop of the US GDP and this led to a corresponding loss in the value of real estate assets in the US by approximately 20 to 50% across board. The great recession not only led to a loss of real estate value but massive foreclosures due to inability to re-pay loans occurred across the country. And by 2009, the foreclosure problem was so bad that the US witnessed more foreclosures than marriages through the year. The banking sector- which is the financial backbone of the real estate sector- also follows the fluctuation trend outlined above. Studies show that during a time of economic growth, commercial banks look favourably on extending loan facilities to aid real estate purchases while in times of recession, the opposite occurs. An apt example was the availability of 100% loan facilities made available for buyers during the economic boom of the 90ââ¬â¢s and the gloom that followed after during the 2007 recession. This trend is the one that continued for generations and does not look like itââ¬â¢s going to stop anytime soon. Thereby proving that the status of a nationââ¬â¢s economy influences its real estate industry in direct proportion and a strong economy will give birth to a solid real estate sector just as a weak economy will negatively affect the value of real estate assets during the same duration. Due to the fact that the primary lenders - banks - of money to the real estate industry as well as unemployment rates and job cuts reflect negatively on a nationââ¬â¢s GDP and this trickles down across all industries including the real estate sector. Here we come to the end of the 2nd article in our series on research project topics on the subject of finance in real estate. We hope this article provided some answers to your questions and for more clarification on writing a project, do not hesitate to read the third article in the proposed series as well as our initial piece 10 facts on finance research. The Challenges Faced by African-Americans in Securing Education Assignment
The Challenges Faced by African-Americans in Securing Education - Assignment Example Among the huge challenges that people faced in trying to establish education for African-Americans was widespread discrimination that came in the form of disproportionate apportioning of education funds. In the late 1890s, white politicians agitated for the division of tax money for education based on race. This move came after the white politicians thought that the white people were paying more taxes towards the education of African-American children. Very few African-Americans received any form of education prior to the establishment of educational institutions during the reconstruction. Most of the schools that existed during this period were segregated without any debate or thought (Washington 44). Most white leaders permitted this form of segregation on the belief that the arrangement would ameliorate conflicts. States in the North and South had public schools, which were highly segregated, and this was a huge challenge for the African- Americans wishing to get some form of education. Even in schools where African-America children were enrolled, the children were subjected to taunts of racial epithets. Moreover, such schools were under the mercy of the state government, which was controlled by whites. Most whites did not want education for African-Americans due to the fear that they would become a threat to their dominance and fail to be content with jobs in domestic services and fields (Washington 44). Although William Dubois and Booker T Washington were born and raised in the Northern part of the USA, which was tolerant and liberal towards African ââ¬âAmericans than the south, they had different ideas on how to help the African-Americans from prejudice faced under the white majority.Ã

Film report Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1
Film report - Essay Example It is therefore required after watching a film that one drafts a film report. This makes it critical to have an objective view of the film. Reflect on the themes and characters that are uniquely portrayed and try to relate them in the scenes or from how they were depicted. This is to say that you may look at the clothes worn by a character, how he/she communicates with other characters and so on. Understanding the context of the characters is usually of vital importance. One may evaluate the happenings in that time period; evaluate what the characters represent and also the symbolic scenes in that particular film. In the report, an argument is always put forward which forms a basis from which evident supporting reasons are sought. From the clearly supported argument, one can therefore relate the film with the occurrences in society for better understanding ourselves (Scott 17-27). From the films on Samurai and warfare, diverse themes come into the limelight. However it is evident that the ancient use of swords in early timeââ¬â¢s warfare was of great significance. The theme of armor and weaponry fortifications and later on the changing strategies upon the introduction of firearms is clearly depicted in Samurai. Fighters in ancient times considered the double edged swords as an important weapon in war. In reference to these wars, the samurai sword is probably the finest edged weapon ever made. How and why it achieve this distinction from its unique metallurgy to its wide use in combat where one stroke always decided the victor. There are perhaps very few movies beyond the samurai based films that clearly show the connection between the Japanese culture and their weaponry. The fact that most of them have war themes also means that the art of war or defense was a crucial aspect of the peopleââ¬â¢s culture. Unlike some of the more recent films that seek to illuminate the life and times of the early Japanese, the samurai movies come out more

Ww1, roaring 20s, theodore roosevelt Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Ww1, roaring 20s, theodore roosevelt - Assignment Example He propagated for a government that serves as an agent of reform for the benefit of the citizens. Through his belief in the government, he gave it, more power to regulate big businesses so that its activities did not affect the general public negatively. Roosevelt also revolutionized foreign affairs because he believed America had a responsibility to build a strong foreign policy. In terms of the presidential style of leadership, Roosevelt incorporated charisma into his political equation. He had a strong attachment to the public and knew how to use the media to shape public opinion (Giblin 151). Even after his death, his legacy continues today and Americans continue to commemorate his life. When Germany declared its intentions to resume unrestricted submarine attacks on Allied and neutral shipping areas within the prescribed war zones, President Woodrow Wilson did not find a reason to join the battle. He refrained from asking for a declaration of war on Germany since he doubted whether the U.S. public would support him (Giblin 51). He thought providing ample proof that the Germans intended to attack the U.S. ships without warning would more important instead of seeking support without proof. Wilson left open a possibility to negotiate the situation with the Germans in case they refrained from attacking the U.S shipping. Nevertheless, the German submarines sank several American ships throughout the February and March period, resulting in the death of several U.S. citizens and seamen. Thus, on February 26, President Wilson requested the Congress to allow him to arm the U.S. merchant ships with naval equipment and personnel (Giblin 121). The request proved unfruitful, and Wilson was forced to arm the merchant ships through his executive order. These among other conflicts between the Germany and the U.S. forced Americans to declare war on Germany in order to protect their territory. The 1920s is often regarded as the ââ¬Å"Roaring Twenties,â⬠and

Effects of Alcoholism Essay Example for Free
Effects of Alcoholism Essay I never thought drinking alcohol could destroy all I had worked for. Sure, I have had my share of hangovers. However, to think I was hurting myself or others never came to mind. I had a great job and really liked the people I worked with. I worked hard and played harder. Going out with my friends and drinking was a major part of my social life. The thought of calling a cab or getting a ride was not a congenital thought. It would take a head on car crash with another vehicle to change my life forever. When I was about seven years old, my dad had a few of his friends over to watch a football game. I took one of the beers when no one was looking and went into the garage. I opened it and took a big gulp. I spit it out and thought, ââ¬Å"This stuff tastes terrible, how can anyone drink this and like itâ⬠? It took until I was in my teens to try beer again. I was with my two best friends and one of them had stolen a six-pack of beer from his dad. We each took a can and opened it. I remember taking my first sip and thinking it was warm. I did not like it, but I was not going to let my friends know that. Therefore, we each drank the first can. I could feel a warm glow permeate my body. When we drank the second can, I felt high and became intoxicated. From that moment on, I drank for the effect not the taste. After I got my driverââ¬â¢s license, my friends and I would go to the bars and drink. When it was time to go I would get in my car and drive home. This went on for years. I always thought I could handle my liquor. When my friends would be pulled over and get a D.à U. I. , I thought they were lightweights and could not hold their liquor. As I grew older, I began to work in the hospitality industry of nightclubs and restaurants. I really enjoyed what I did and was good at it. During this time, I would always have a drink or two at closing time. After we closed, I would get a cocktail for the road. This went on for years. As the years progressed so did my consumption of alcohol. I grew tired of the hospitality industry and changed jobs. I started work in the heavy construction industry. I became close friends with a group of people I worked with. We would meet after work at a bar or restaurant and have some drinks. When it was time to go, I would get a drink for the road. This habit continued until one day I was going to my best friend and his wifeââ¬â¢s log home they were building on some land in Northeast Missouri. They were having a house warming and Fourth of July party. They were going to have a huge barbeque with all their neighbors and some friends followed by a giant fireworks display. I began my day to leave for the party by going to work. I had a very strenuous day without any breaks. When I got home, a friend shows up and we have a couple of drinks. I pack my car and said goodbye to my friend. I made a drink for the road and headed out. I do not remember a thing after that. I came to in a hospital. The nurse said I was in an accident and I was hurt very bad. She said I had been in a car accident and that I had a head on collision with another vehicle. She explained that I was in a coma for fifteen days. That I had a broken pelvis, hip, ribs, knee cap and collapsed lung. When the doctor came by to see me, he informed me I had some brain damage and that I would probably not walk again. My brother was there and explained to me what the police had told him. He said that I had crossed the centerline of the highway and hit a car head on. The other car had a mother with her four young children. Thank God they were not seriously injured and did not require a hospital stay. Once the hospital lowered my condition to stable, the Missouri Highway Patrol came and took me to jail. I was charged with five counts of second-degree assault and one count of possession of a firearm while intoxicated. All of these charges are felonies. I was tried, convicted, and was sentenced to twelve years in prison. I served four months in a prison treatment facility and I was released on parole with five years probation. I lost my job. I lost my lifeââ¬â¢s savings. I lost my car. I am crippled and cannot work. What drinking and driving has cost me is being paid with every step I take and the thought of what I could have done to that family.

Introduction About Competitive Advantage Commerce Essay
Introduction About Competitive Advantage Commerce Essay First of all, I would like to define what is competitive advantage? Competitive advantage will be exists when the company is able to deliver the same benefit as what the competitors delivering but in a lower cost (cost advantage), or deliver benefit that exceed these of competing products (differentiation advantage). Thus, competitive advantages give the company capable to create great value for its customers and great profits for itself. As what Michael Porter mentioned two basic types of competitive advantage are the Cost advantage and Differentiation advantage. Cost competitive advantage. To achieve this kind of advantage in the company all what the company should do is to offer the better products to the customers with reduced cost compared to the competitors. For example, HP has achieved sustainable cost competitive advantage over all its competitors by being able to produce highly quality laptops at a cheaper rate. This gets Stella upset so she goes to the bathroom. While she is there Stanley comes home, he gives Blanche a frank stare and they have an awkward conversation, we find out Blanche had a husband who died when they were both very young. Stanley is common and rough compared to Blanche who is delicate. Stanley is a very sexual man and sex is part of what makes him tick. His appraisal of women is frank and straightforward. It becomes obvious that the sexual bond between Stanley and Stella is intense, and that this is what keeps their relationship going. Stella tells Stanley about the loss of ââ¬ËBelle Reveââ¬â¢ and Stanley thinks Blanche has profited from this and goes through her things. When Stanley routes through the letters her husband had written this makes Blanche angry and also brings back memories of her past. That night Stanley has his friends round for a poker game and this is where Blanche first meets Mitch they talk about things they have in common and she tells him she is ... ...l ingredients to a play. ââ¬ËA play should be about one characterââ¬â¢, in A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee used Blanche, the tragic heroin the protagonist he based his play around Blanches character. ââ¬ËA play should be set in one placeââ¬â¢ Tennessee used New Orleans, with the play begin set in one place this increased the tension, be more intense so more confrontations would occur if there was no where else to escape to. For Blancheââ¬â¢s character New Orleans becomes a trap. Aristotle also said ââ¬ËA play should be set over a 24hr periodââ¬â¢ Tennessee didnââ¬â¢t use this ingredient in his play because we needed time for Stellaââ¬â¢s pregnancy to develop and cause more conflict. We needed to see Blanche and Mitchââ¬â¢s relationship develop and unfold. Also Blanches mental state needed time to deteriorate so we wouldnââ¬â¢t feel so shocked when she was taken away by the nurse and doctor.

Antivuris Programs Essay
Today, people rely on computers to create, store, and manage critical information, many times via a home computer network. Information transmitted over networks has a higher degree of security risk than information kept in a userââ¬â¢s home or company premises. Thus, it is crucial that they take measures to protect their computers and data from loss, damage, and misuse resulting from computer security risks. Antivirus programs are an effective way to protect a computer against viruses. An antivirus program protects a computer against viruses by identifying and removing any computer virus found in memory, on storage media, or on incoming files. When you purchase a new computer, it often includes antivirus software. Antivirus programs work by scanning for programs that attempt to modify the boot program, the operating system, and other programs that normally are read from but not modified. In addition, many antivirus programs automatically scan files downloaded from the Web, e-mail attachments, opened files, and all types of removable media inserted in the computer (Karanos 201-205). One Technique that antivirus programs use to identify a virus is to look for virus signatures, or virus definitions, which are known specific patterns of virus code. According to Shelly and Cashman (Antivirus Programs), many vendors of antivirus programs allow registered users to update virus signature files automatically from the Web at no cost for a specified time. Updating the Antivirus programââ¬â¢s signature files regularly is important, because it will download any new virus definitions that have been added since the last update. Methods that guarantee a computer or network is safe from computer viruses simply do not exist. Installing, updating, and using an antivirus program, though, is an effective technique to safeguard your computer from loss.
